Foods That Have A Negative Affect On Your Child's Behavior

According to some nutrition experts, approximately 10% of children do suffer from some sort of food intolerance and even allergies to some foods and food additives.  If you think this could be the case with your child, you can observe their behavior after eating such foods and discussing such findings with your family physician.

Being too hungry or eating too much of the wrong foods (junk food, sugar, etc) can be common contributors to behavior problems related to food. It is important to have awareness of your child's specific behavior patterns.  Most children will tend to act out when they are tired and hungry because their brain and body does not have enough energy to function properly.  A quick snack can restore order to the household and maintain it until the next meal is ready.

It's a good idea to involve your child in learning about foods and the effect that nutrition has on how they feel.  The more they learn about reading labels for the fat, sugar, salt, and additive content, the easier it will be for them to make good food choices on their own.

Try to avoid sugary snacks and other treats right before bedtime as this can create hyperactive behavior and even lead to other problems such as childhood obesity or diabetes.  A nice big drink of water will help the body process and eliminate excess sugars and keep their brains and bodies properly hydrated.
